and in 1842 it was converted into a presentation walking stick. The worn-away finish on the handle and continuing on a short length of shaft indicates a long period of use.
A button inserted in the handle reads "J. W. B. TO W. M. 1842"
on and below the handle indicate prolonged use and time.
